“A Faith That Rests”

“When Trust Becomes the Anchor of Our Soul.”

“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” – Luke 18:8

A “very profound question asked by Jesus found in this portion of scripture, for me, it leaves me to ask a few questions.

  • Why would Jesus say that?
  • Who was He talking about?
  • When will this kind of Faith be needed the most?

In this edition of our Church blog, let’s explore the answers to this thought-provoking question.Jesus posed a piercing question in the Parable of the Persistent Widow found in Luke 18—not to alarm us, but to awaken us. He wasn’t asking about any Faith, but a specific kind: a faith that persists… and rests simultaneously!

In our fast-paced, high-anxiety world, this question cuts deep. Will Jesus find Faith that endures yet knows how to rest in God’s promises, primarily upon His appearing in the clouds (The Rapture)?

    1. Why Would Jesus Ask This?

Jesus knew what we would face in the end times, and these are mentioned in scripture, and we are currently experiencing much of these:

    • There are rumours of wars right now between Israel and Iran.
    • Economic pressures
    • Political corruption
    • Rising anxiety and fear (with 29.9% of Queenslanders experiencing anxiety disorders in their lifetime)

And so, Jesus wasn’t just calling out to the apostles or prophets. He was speaking to:

    • The grandmother praying for her wayward grandchildren
    • The couple believes in their marriage and finances
    • The business owner trusts God through uncertainty
    • The pastor interceding for revival in their city

He was calling you and me, the born-again, spirit-filled believer, to a faith that is anchored, enduring, and restful.

    2. Faith Is Not Striving — It’s Resting

Smith Wigglesworth once said, “Great faith is the product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.”

But here’s the paradox: Faith fights from a place of rest, peace, confidence and trust in God.Hebrews 4 reminds us that although the Israelites were delivered from Egypt, they never entered God’s rest or promised land— not because of circumstance, but because of unbelief. You could say murmuring and anxiety, looking back not forward!

“They could not enter in because of unbelief.” – Hebrews 3:19

Their hearts were hardened, their Trust fragile. They heard the Word, but Faith didn’t accompany it.

      3. What Does It Mean to Enter God’s Rest?

In the Old Testament, rest was a promised land — a physical location.

In the New Covenant, rest is a position of Trust:

      • Ceasing from our efforts to earn God’s approval
      • Trusting in the finished work of Jesus
      • Living free from fear, performance, and striving

The Greek Word for rest, katapauō, means to “settle down, to desist.” It’s not laziness — it’s intentional surrender. Laying it all at the alter of “Jesus feet”.“Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest…” – Hebrews 4:11 (KJV) “In other words, let us labour therefore to enter…”

        • We labour to enter rest.
        • We fight to believe.
        • We press into peace.

        4. Faith Needs a Resting Place — Trust

Dr Tony Walter-Girout, my Father-in-Law, said it perfectly: “Faith has a bigger brother. His name is called Trust.” Trust is the bridge between believing God can and resting in the fact that He will, that He works all things together for the good of those who are called according to His purpose.

Hudson Taylor, the great missionary, once declared: “I am no longer anxious about anything… It makes no matter where He places me or how.” That’s Faith that rests.

          5. The Word + Faith = Rest

Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes by hearing… the Word [Rhema] of God.”

It’s not just about only reading the Bible — it’s about hearing God speak directly to your spirit, the Holy Spirit opening the eyes of your understanding and bringing enlightenment to scripture.

          • Logos is the written Word (Bible)
          • Rhema is the spoken, timely, personal, revealed Word

When the Rhema Word hits your heart, Faith is ignited — and your soul can rest. “Faith begins where the will of God is known.” – Kenneth E. Hagin. When you know His will, you stop striving.

          6. Jesus Is Our Rest

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…” – Matthew 11:28–30 Jesus isn’t inviting you into burnout spirituality. He’s calling you into a life yoked with Him, where burdens are lifted, and peace is real.

He doesn’t just want to give you strength to stand — He wants to provide you with a place to rest.

How Do We Labour to Enter the Rest?

          • Anchor ourselves in the Word (Hebrews 4:12)
          • Choose Faith over fear
          • Surrender striving for righteousness
          • Walk in obedient Trust
          • Refuse to harden our hearts

          Final Encouragement

In the middle of uncertainty, economic upheaval, or spiritual weariness — let your Faith rest in His promises. The greatest battles are often not external but internal — the fight to maintain Trust, to stay at peace, and to believe even when nothing seems to be changing.

“When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” Let the answer be yes in you. Let Him find in you — a faith that rests.

Hebrews 4:3 – “We who have believed do enter that rest…” Rest is not the absence of warfare; it’s the presence of Trust.

          Blessings,
